Evidence of new work in the making...

Lets be friends!

whosinned.com:
Stacy Zaninovich is a local artist that I have grown to appreciate. Here is my interpretation of this particularly wonderful piece: the bird represents the artist, and by extension humanity as a whole, who finds her journey set in a massive expanse of darkness. Somehow, the bird still maintains her color. This is explained by the circles surrounding the bird—symbolizing gentle, divine love—that offer protection and communion. The arch of light stars is the appointed map home. It does not appear to be an ornate home, but it is nevertheless the goal. And you know that once the destination is reached, all will be well.

I really appreciate being invited to participate in your experience of my painting. I’m excited to see that at least one person is able to enjoy, but also see through my “cute” imagery. I always worry that sometimes people are not able to do that because they are maybe too cute for their own good-too cute to have something more. Although the imagery is pretty recognizable it is hard for me to talk about my connection to my own paintings in concrete specifics. My creative process always turns out being a more abstract experience for me, no matter matter how hard my analytical mind tries to make it otherwise. Last night I was reading the introduction to “God in the Gallery” by Daniel A. Siedell. He briefly comments on the distinction between contemplation and communication in the context of experiencing modern art. He says that “art is too often assumed to be merely verbal communication pursued by other (and inferior) means, that the artist is trying to send “messages” that we as viewers must receive and understand linguistically. This is distinctly not the case with art. Art requires contemplation that focuses attention on the viewer developing a relationship with the work of art, not merely passively receiving a message.” So thank for understanding and being friends with my painting ;-) You’re doing better than me. It took me forever to get this concept and understand my own work. You should read the book for sure!
